Everyone is having an awesome time this week at VBS, and Thursday was no exception! And, oh my, the hair... too crazy! Thank you God for keeping the rain away once again. (Now...can we have a talk about Friday??)

Check out all the great photos from today, along with the awesome video highlights from Wonder U. and the VBS news team! And did anybody see that mysterious red-headed stranger sneak onto the screen this morning!?

Wonder U.

What a great week it's been--full of really cool science experiments and learning about the amazing power of God! Some of our experiments were hard to believe, like seeing water boil with ice--what's up with that?? But our doubts are "crushed", just like the soda pop cans we crushed with water, when we keep our eyes on Jesus. The apostle Peter experienced this when he stepped out of the boat to walk on the water with Jesus. When he took his eyes off of Jesus he began to sink. God is awesome! We can trust in Him always!

Theatre of the Galaxies

Our show this morning was exciting in several ways today. Our astronaut friend told about walking on the moon. It was scary and wonderful all at the same time to step out on the moon. Liz told us of another walk that was scary and wonderful. Peter and the Disciples acted out the time they were in a boat late at night and Jesus WALKED OUT to them. Ya know, water is something you just don't walk on! When Peter stepped out of the boat, he found that he had to keep his eyes on Jesus to be safe on that walk.

We learned that in life we have to love and trust Jesus and make a commitment to Him. "All things are possible with God." Mark 10:27

Missions

Today in missions we learned that in addition to emergency aid and the Manna Project, IDES offers medical services in a number of countries including Mexico and the Philippines. These services bring medicine and medical clinics to remote villages. All of these services are done in conjunction with missionaries in the country so that the cause of Christ can be enhanced through outreach.

Friday will be our last day to return the Son Fish for our IDES offering! We are about half way to our goal of 250 fish and look forward to reaching that goal as we finish the week!

Crafts

Today our 2's thru Kindergarten classes made bath soap! We learned a verse from the book of Mark, "ALL things are possible with God." 1st thru 3rd grade made placemats that remind us of today's story about Jesus calming the storm... and how we can always trust HIM! 4th thru 6th grades made "Flying Comets" showing more of God's creativity!

We're having a great week of crafts at VBS and are so thankful for the many boys and girls God has sent to New Hope! See you tomorrow!

Recreation

Whew! Fun in the sun today--praise God for another wonderful day! Today we played "Walk On Water Dash". We had to walk on water and rocks (helping us remember Jesus is the rock!) really fast because if we were in the water, we had two people on each side throwing wet sponges at us! If we got tagged or soaked it was back to the start.

We had a great time and now understand that we can't do anything without God's help. See you tomorrow...who knows what we'll do!!

Meet My Class

Ever wonder what those 5 year olds and 4th grade classes do all day? Well it's your lucky day! Folden's Cosmic Rays, the 5's class, is having a wonderful week. We learned that Jesus walked on water and we ALWAYS can trust Him. All 20 of us enjoy singing, and several of our boys even say that is their favorite part! We're getting to experience crafts in the form of fun bathtub paint, and of course, we love to get outside and run at recreation. We hope everyone has enjoyed this week as much as the teachers have!

Today in the Cosmic Galaxy, Becky's 4th graders had a spectacularly (nice word!) eventful day. We began by singing our hearts out for god. Four days and we pretty much know every song and all the motions. Our parents will absolutely love hearing us tomorrow night! Next up, we played a hilariously wet game of "Sponge Throw". Our fudge bars went down so easy after getting all hot and sweaty. We made comets today in crafts, which are actually just bags of beans, but boy were they stellar! We helped tell the story of Jesus and Peter by actually being in the storm--sound effects and all! Finally in our homeroom we reviewed all our memory verses and had a race to see which team could put the "Walking on Water" story in sequential order. We're looking forward to a great final day of VBS fun!

Daisley's Outstanding Orbiters started off our morning at Alpha Base. We were on the stage practicing for our wonderful program on Friday night. We're so excited for our parents to come watch the result of our hard work this week. The next stop on our journey was Asteroid Alley. We tried to make our way across the water (parking lot) without getting tagged by a wet sponge. When we were finished we headed to The Shooting Star Drive-in where we cooled off with a delicious fudge cycle. Our fourth stop took us to Supernova SuperMart. There we made comets from clothe, beans, and a rubber band. We see lots of comets here in Cosmic City. Next it was Theater of the Galaxies for today's drama. We learned that when we don't focus on Jesus, we lose our way. Back in our classroom we talked about how we should always have faith in God and trust in Jesus. We've had a great week with great kids. Please keep coming and we hope to see all parents Friday night!

Wrap-Up

Today we had 222 kids and 96 staff! And, wow! We've had a wonderful response with our Son Fish! So far 113 have been returned with a total offering of $936 through the end of the day on Wednesday. That offering included 18,950 pennies! Aren't you glad you don't have to count those?

Don't forget about your Deeper Space activities this afternoon--it's the last day! The 4's and 5's were honored today for the most colorful projects, and the 1st graders for being the most creative. Great job everyone! Rumor has it there's a big surprise for all our Deeper Space work! Did you find today's Cosmic Clue? Today's words were "TELL", "I", and "WILL".

Be sure to look at today's photos and watch today's newscast and Wonder U. experiment on the video page. Have you signed the guestbook? Leave a message for all your friends to see! And tomorrow is BACKWARDS/INSIDE OUT day. We can't WAIT to see what you come up with for this!!

It's our final day of VBS tomorrow. Parents, due to concerns about rain and severe weather, the carnival after the VBS closing program has been canceled. The closing program is still on for 6pm (kids are to arrive at 5:45pm) with refreshments afterwards in the Fellowship Hall. If there is any change in the forecast and updates about the closing program, we will post this information on the website Friday afternoon. Families and kids are invited to our annual Church Picnic on August 17th at noon at New Hope for fun and excitement.
