It was an exciting Tuesday at Cosmic City! The skies looked a bit scary when we arrived, but that didn't last long! Check out today's photos, and click here to view video highlights from the news team and Wonder U.!

Wonder U.

Yesterday we saw how God is the creator through a chemical reaction of oscillating colors. Well today we learned how God is the provider of everything we need. In our experiment, we made fire by exploding water bottles. It was quite a "blast" to see! This doesn't COMPARE to the mighty fire God used to lead the Israelites through the desert... but it IS really neat to use science to show God's miraculous power. Click here to watch what happened! Stay tuned for tomorrow to see more explosive science!

Theatre of the Galaxies

Today in Theater of the Galaxies, we learned about the Israelites wandering in the desert back in the time of Moses, and an absent minded astronaut interrupted our show! We learned how the Israelites go on step by step, day after day, through the desert. They began to wonder... "God loves us, so why is He making it so hard for us?" One man grumbled and complained while another trusted God to take care of them. Ultimately, God provided manna, quail, and water to meet the Israelites' physical needs... and to show that HE is all they really need. We discovered that God is trustworthy and we CAN count on Him!

"The Lord will guide you always; He will satisfy your needs." Isaiah 58:11

Missions

Today we learned from Disaster Dan and Faith N. Miracles that IDES is working around the world to help groups of people with basic needs. For example, IDES is drilling wells in Africa and Asia where water is in desperate shortage. They are also helping farmers in Europe plant crops and grow livestock so that they can help themselves and the villages around them.

The "coin fish" are already making their migration back to New Hope! We had 32 fish today, which translates into at least 32 children fed for an entire month--an awesome response for so early in the week!

Crafts

Today in crafts, the 2's & 3's made a hand print with paint. We numbered our fingers to remind us that we can count on God. The 4's, 5's and K made "Write On/Wipe Off Rocket Boards" where we can write scripture and things that we see God giving us. When we think of the rocket countdown, we remember how we can count on God. 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade made a "String of Praise" key chain that says "God is Awesome". 4th, 5th and 6th grade made a "Duct Tape Survival Kit" to remind us that God made EVERYTHING we need to survive--including our salvation! That's a message that's sure to "stick" in our minds!

Recreation

Another great day of recreation! Inside because of the soggy grass, but that doesn't mean we didn't have fun! Today we learned through our games that "God is awesome and we can count on Him".

The 4's, 5's and K played "Baskets of Manna Race". We divide into families and had to bring our cup to the manna pot (well, actually it was full of Lucky Charms...) and bring it back to our families. The older kids played "Manna Madness" with blow-pops. What a "sweet" day! We split into teams each one had to grab suckers from the other team's side without getting tagged, and return it safely to our bowl. Talk about MADNESS!!

Meet My Class

Today we're taking an in-depth look into the 4's class and the 2nd graders. Niki and Beth's 4 year olds started off learning about how God provided for the Israelites in the desert. We LOVE answering questions when the play is over! Afterwards, we played a little in our classroom before doing memory work. Music was loads of fun...and we're really starting to learn the motions! We also learned about kids in other countries who are not as blessed as we are. At the end of the day we got to play games and even eat a yummy snack!

The Bourne's Super Sonics are discovering why God is so awesome! Today we learned that its a horrible thing to be lost--whether lost in space, a desert, or a brand new school. But through the music, missions and drama, we saw (in some funny and memorable ways) that we have a God who loves us and gives us hope...because each day He guides us and provides for us. God not only cares for us--He makes it fun to follow Him!

The Stevens 2nd graders arrived today ready to praise God. We had a bunch of crazy hats--a skunk hat, a jester hat, a cowboy hat--even an Indian headdress! And we were amazed by the science experiment. In missions we learned the word of the day...LOVE! During drama, we learned about a grumbling and a grateful Israelite. We also reviewed the creation story. In homeroom we talked about how God provided for the Israelites, even though they grumbled. We'll be back tomorrow for another exciting day!

Wrap-Up

It was a great second day of VBS! We had 225 kids and 101 staff, for a total today of 326! Keep inviting those friends so that they can also learn about God! And we had a great start to our 250 fish goal. Don't forget about the Deeper Space activities--the walls were covered in papers today! Congratulations to the Stevens and Bourne 2nd grade class for bringing in 36 activities, and the Carter and McFarland 3rd graders with 22! And keep looking for those Cosmic Clues...today's words were "LORD" and "O".

There were three bad jokes in today's highlights--did you catch them?? Remember to check out today's photos and watch today's newscast and Wonder U. experiment on the video page. And be sure to leave a note to all your friends and teachers on the guestbook. Tomorrow is RED WHITE and BLUE STARS & STRIPES. See you again tomorrow!
